The project brief was to capture the essence of a suburb of Melbourne through a printed publication. I choose to explore my suburb of Armadale through a photographic lense. Exploring the suburb in early Autumn I felt Armadale to be very idyllic both in its beautiful exterior as well as in the community joy.

For the printed publication task we were given a fairy tail narrative to work with as our text. I lent into a dreamy fairytale landscape combining colourful photography with sweeping white elements. The elements appear to cut up the page as if to represent a scrapbook lense In which to observe the scenery. Designed with a clean, minimal layout, the publication allows the photography to tell the story.

In my photography I aimed to capture moments in the business of highstreet cafes contrasting with the quaint residential streets. The more I walked around the streets the more I noticed the abundance of dogs out and about. I began taking photos of all the dogs I could find in the area and choose to tell the story of the suburb through their eyes.

A shortlist of photographs were selected for an A1 poster design. I used a combination of residential and commercial landscapes combined with my photographs of the dogs.
